I think that the beginning of this chapter was foreshadowing of was was going to happen later. We know that Jack's mom is very pretty, and that strangers from the street won't take you to their home, make you a "hamburger", and buy you an expensive bike without something in return. Gil and Judd only wanted to use Jack's mom for their own pleasure.
