The date

In the book the guy that jacks mom was seeing was really trying to get to jacks mom by getting jack to like him, and making a lot of false promises. When jacks mom cam home from her date crying jack was really trying to comfort her, and it shows that there is some kind of good side to jack. He likes to feel needed. It makes me wonder what happened on his moms date, and why did she come home crying?
